Stamped concrete cost in North Carolina, 2026
Patios and driveways on one page, because the finish is the same and the slab is not. What you pay per square foot, where the premium over broom finish goes, and what stamped costs to own for ten years.
The short answer
Stamped concrete in North Carolina costs $12 to $20 per square foot installed in 2026, against $8 to $12 for a broom finish on the same slab. A 16 by 24 foot stamped patio of 384 square feet lands between $4,600 and $7,700 with one pattern and one color; a 600 square foot two-car stamped driveway between $7,200 and $12,000. Published Raleigh figures run $10 to $21 per square foot and a published Charlotte comparison $14 to $24, which agree with our quotes. The $4 to $8 premium over broom buys integral color, a release agent, the stamp mats and the extra crew that sets them inside a narrow window, and two coats of sealer. The base, the four-inch 3,500 to 4,000 PSI air-entrained slab, the reinforcement and the sawn joints underneath are identical, and those are the parts never to save on.

Where the stamped premium goes
Stamped costs $4 to $8 more per square foot than broom. The table below breaks that premium into the lines on our quotes, so you can see which dollars you can drop and which you cannot.
| Line item | What it is | Adds per sq ft | Can you skip it? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Integral color | Pigment mixed into the concrete at the plant, so the color is through the slab | $0.75–1.50 | Only for a natural gray stamp, which reads as cast stone |
| Release agent | Colored powder or liquid that keeps the mats from sticking and adds the antique shading | $0.50–1.00 | No; liquid release is cheaper and lighter in color |
| Stamp crew and mats | Two to three extra hands for the 30 to 60 minutes the slab is stampable, plus the mats | $2.00–3.50 | No; a short crew is how patterns come out uneven |
| Sealer, two coats | Acrylic or breathable sealer that locks the color and sheds water | $0.75–1.25 | No; unsealed stamped concrete fades in one summer |
| Border band | A plain or contrasting 8 to 12 inch band at the edge | $0.50–1.00 | Yes; the pattern can run to the edge |
| Second pattern or color | A field pattern with a different border pattern, or two integral colors | $1.00–2.00 | Yes |
| Hand-applied stain accents | Acid or water-based stain worked into individual stones | $1.50–3.00 | Yes |
| Joint layout to the pattern | Planning and sawing joints so they fall in grout lines | $0.25–0.50 | No; joints across a pattern are the first thing you see |
If you need to save, drop extras and keep the base and the mix as specified. The bottom of the stamped range is one seamless texture, one color, clear sealer, no border. Decorative concrete cost climbs with every decision above the line, and each one is a taste decision we will price plainly.
What moves the price
Pattern and color
Ashlar slate and seamless textures are the fastest to stamp and the cheapest. Cobblestone, fan and wood plank have more grout lines to keep straight, and a wood plank needs the joints laid out with the boards. One integral color with one release is the baseline; a second color is a second pour or a second pass. Seamless texture is the cheapest stamped look because there is no pattern to align at the edges. A stamped concrete patio cost in NC starts at the seamless end and climbs with each pattern decision.
Patio or driveway
Same finish, different slab. A stamped concrete driveway cost in NC carries a four-inch minimum, a 4,000 PSI mix and reinforcement because it takes wheel loads, and its joints have to be planned around both the pattern and the wheel paths. Dark release colors show tire marks and a glossy sealer can pick up hot tires in a Charlotte July, so we steer driveways toward lighter releases and a breathable sealer. A patio takes foot traffic and furniture and can carry any color you like. The concrete driveway cost in NC guide covers the slab itself.
Removal and access
Taking out an old slab adds $2 to $8 per square foot. A stamp crew cannot wait on a slow pour: if the truck cannot back to the forms and concrete has to be wheeled or pumped, the pour is staged in sections and priced for it. That is one of the few cases where the premium is about access, not finish.
Sealer and upkeep
Reseal every two to three years, $1 to $3 per square foot, about $600 a visit on an 800 square foot driveway in our quotes. North Carolina humidity, summer UV and winter de-icers all shorten sealer life. A patio that is never resealed fades to gray, holds water in the texture and grows mildew in the grout lines. This is the cost that closes the gap with pavers over ten years; the concrete vs pavers page has the full comparison.
Where in North Carolina
Published Raleigh figures run $10 to $21 per square foot (Angi, July 2026). A published Charlotte comparison puts stamped at $14 to $24 against $9 to $16 for plain concrete (September 2026). No published Triad figure exists; our Greensboro and Winston-Salem quotes sit in the same $12 to $20 band. Distance from the nearest concrete plant matters more than the town.
Ten years of owning it
A 400 square foot patio, installed plus upkeep, at the middle of each range.
| Item | Broom finish | Stamped | Concrete pavers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Install | $4,000 | $6,400 | $7,600 |
| Reseal, 3 visits in 10 yrs | $0 | $2,400 | $0 |
| Joint sand top-up, 2 visits | $0 | $0 | $500 |
| Typical repair | Patch a crack, $300 | Patch a crack, color mismatch, $500 | Lift and re-set 20 sq ft, $400 |
| Ten-year total | $4,300 | $9,300 | $8,500 |
| Per year | $430 | $930 | $850 |
Stamped is cheaper than pavers to install and slightly more to own. If you will reseal on schedule it is a good product. If you will not, the paver patio cost in NC guide is the one to read. Compare stamped concrete vs pavers cost over ten years of ownership.

Stamped concrete cost questions
How much does a stamped concrete patio cost in North Carolina?
A stamped concrete patio in North Carolina costs $12 to $20 per square foot installed in 2026, so a 16 by 24 foot patio of 384 square feet lands between $4,600 and $7,700 with one pattern and one color. A border band, a second color or hand-applied stain accents push it toward the top of the range. Published Raleigh figures run $10 to $21 per square foot, which agrees.
How much more is stamped than plain broom-finish concrete?
About $4 to $8 more per square foot. Broom finish runs $8 to $12 in North Carolina and stamped $12 to $20. The difference is integral color, the release agent, the stamp mats and the larger crew needed to set them inside a narrow window, and two coats of sealer. The slab, base and reinforcement underneath are identical.
Is stamped concrete cheaper than pavers in NC?
Usually a little cheaper to install: stamped runs $12 to $20 per square foot and concrete pavers $14 to $24. Over ten years the gap closes, because stamped concrete is resealed every two to three years and a cracked stamped slab is a patch or a replacement, while a paver surface is repaired one piece at a time. Our concrete vs pavers page has the full comparison.
Can a stamped driveway hold up to cars and trucks?
Yes, when it is built as a driveway first and a stamped surface second: four inches minimum of 3,500 to 4,000 PSI air-entrained concrete on four inches of compacted stone, reinforced, with control joints laid out to fall in the pattern's grout lines. Dark release colors show tire marks, and sealer can pick up hot tires in July, so we steer driveways toward lighter releases and a breathable sealer.
How often does stamped concrete need to be resealed in North Carolina?
Every two to three years in full sun, longer in shade. North Carolina humidity, summer UV and winter de-icers all shorten sealer life. A reseal runs $1 to $3 per square foot, about $600 for an 800 square foot driveway in our quotes. Skipping it is how a stamped patio fades to gray and starts holding water in the texture.
Will stamped concrete crack, and does the pattern hide the joints?
Concrete shrinks as it cures, so it will crack somewhere; control joints decide where. On a stamped slab we lay the joints out before the pour so they land in a grout line of the pattern, then saw them within 6 to 18 hours. Done that way the joints disappear into the stone look. Done as an afterthought they cut across the pattern and are the first thing you see.
What is the cheapest way to get a stamped look?
One seamless texture stamp with one integral color and a clear sealer, no border, on a rectangle. That is the bottom of the stamped range, about $12 to $14 per square foot. The texture reads as stone without the cutting and layout time a pattern with grout lines needs. Keep the base, mix and joints exactly as they are and take the savings from the finish only.
